Violins

Gibertoni & Nalin, Milan 2021

(Model: Matteo Goffriller, 1700)

A narrow center bout, high archings and a delicate outline are just some of the features of this Goffriller violin that captivated us. We wanted to copy an instrument from the Venetian tradition, which we look up to with great admiration. Even if by the looks it would seem small, it has a powerful and direct sound, with a resonant and responsive emission.

(Model: Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesù”, 1742)

For this instrument we were inspired by the unique and intriguing “Lord Wilton”’s craftsmanship. A strong outline and asymmetrical F-holes are, together with a scroll carved with no second thoughts, typical of Guarneri’s making. This particular look is paired with a deep and velvety sound, that allows the musicians to express themselves with a wide variety of voicing qualities.

(Model: Carlo Giuseppe Testore, 1710)

Inspired by Carlo Giuseppe Testore's peculiar making technique, its aesthetics, traditionally achieved by Testore to produce affordable instruments, results in a fascinating and spellbinding craft. The uniqueness persuaded us to make a fine violin that condenses all the features of this Milanese maker, from the missing fluting on the scroll's back to the etched and inked purfling on the back.

(Model: Antonio Stradivari, 1713)

With this violin we wanted to start from the roots of Stradivari’s methods, choosing a model taken directly from the famous “forma G”, kept in the Museo del Violino in Cremona. The analysis of our original casts supports us in revealing some of the hidden and most beautiful characteristics of this exceptional maker.

Stefano Gibertoni, Milan 2020

(Model: Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesu’”, 1740)

Whenever we take inspiration from Guarneri “del Gesu’” we like to pay great attention to the peculiar details of his fascinating work. This model, taken from the “Ysaÿe”, has a slimmer than average outline and wide sound holes, with a similar style to the 1737 “Stern”. Each toolmark tries to condense “del Gesu’”s powerful style in an instrument with strong projection and a deep, round tone.
